High Chief Johnson Fagbamiye, Ile-Oluji’s Walking Encyclopaedia
High Chief (Surv.) Johnson Akinyele Akinsola Fagbamiye, JP, the Lisa of Ile-Oluji
Kingdom, is a consummate professional surveyor who reached the zenith of his career
and became the Surveyor-General of Ondo State. He was well-educated and
thoroughly-trained in Nigeria and overseas at reputable institutions and establishments.
He graduated with honours (B.Sc. Geography) from the University of Ibadan in 1967,
and was at the Institute of Public Administration, University of Ife (now Obafemi
Awolowo University) in 1968 for the M.Phil. Programme in Public Administration. He
pulled out of the course in January 1969 for a professional career in Surveying when he
was appointed a Pupil Surveyor in the defunct Western State of Nigeria. He served
Ondo State meritoriously as a public servant who was saddled with various strategic
responsibilities.
He later represented the State as a Director of WEMABOD Estates, a subsidiary of O’Odua Investment Company Limited. He trained at the School of Surveying, Oyo, (1969), School of Military Surveys, Newbury, United Kingdom (1970), and the International Institute for Aerial Surveys and Earth Sciences (ITC) Enschede, The Netherlands (1977/78) specialising in “Integrated Surveys for Development”. During this period, he was privileged to travel widely to Europe and North Africa, visiting many parts of Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Egypt and the offices of the United Nations Organisation.
He has since then taken keen interest in “Conflict Resolution as Panacea for Peace and Development”. Since he retired, Baba Lisa, as he is fondly called, has proved his mettle, first as a politician, and now as a frontline community leader. His current traditional role as the Lisa (Prime Minister), and second-in-command to the King, has no doubt confirmed his high level of integrity, leadership acumen, and people management skills. He was conferred with the Itamporo of Ile-Oluji Chieftaincy title in April 1992 by HRM Oba Engr. (Dr) Suulade Adedugbe, FNSE, Jilubokun II, Jegun Olu-Ekun of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, in recognition of his tireless role in the creation of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government among other community development services.
He was appointed High Chief Lisa of Ile-Oluji Kingdom on 17 th November, 2005 also by HRM Oba Suulade Adedugbe for his efforts at mobilizing the people in the community for development in all spheres of endeavours, youth development and promoting religious tolerance within the borders of Ile-Oluji Kingdom. He was born on April 15, 1943 into the Fagbamiye Dynasty of Ile-Oluji. His father was Pa Daniel Akinrinmade Fagbamiye, a Jos-based transporter, a.k.a ‘Sarka Lafia’, and the second male child of High Chief Sama Fagbamiye of Ile-Oluji, the son of Akinyele Ajakaiye, who waged wars alongside his close associate, Orisarayibi Ogundamola (a.k.a Ogedengbe Agbogungboro) of Ilesha against Ibadan in the 16-year long Kiriji Civil War (1877-1893).
His mother, “Mama Jos”, was Madam Victoria Adetuwo Fagbamiye, (Nee Akindileni), a praying mother, trader, and descendant of Jegun Abesoko of Ile- Oluji Kingdom. His hardworking and doting parents spared no effort in instilling the best ethos of omoluwabi in him. A sociable figure, he entertained his college mates at Gboluji with the “Peperuru” orchestra in company of Otunba (The Ven.) Olufemi Oyawale and Professor Anjuwon Akinwande. At Ijebu-Ode, he formed the “Lower Six Dandies” Band. He enjoys good music and loves dancing and singing. He is a quiet, hardworking, and amiable leader with enormous vision, courage, compassion, resourceful brain and astonishing charisma. In his youthful days he was called “Akin Luongbon” because he was heavily bearded. He is a detribalized Nigerian who not only speaks Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo languages, but also understands, accommodates and appreciates any Nigerian without compromising principles.
